Mills River Township operates under a Council-Manager form of government. Our Mayor is chosen by the full Council following municipal elections. The Council consists of the Mayor plus four other elected members. Each serves a term of four years. Elections are held every two years so that the council seats are held on a staggered basis. The Town employs a town manager to administer the operation of the Town, a town clerk/tax collector, an administrative assistant, and a zoning enforcement officer. A contract with the Henderson County Sheriff's Department provides a specifically assigned deputy to serve the needs of Mills River.

The Town Council meets in regular sessions twice each month on the 2nd and 4th Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall Council Meeting Room located at 124 Town Center Drive.
