Scholarships

The Fitzpatrick Foundation has established a scholarship for three Mills River students each year at Blue Ridge Community College.

Value & Coverage

The scholarship, each one currently valued at $3,250, is the creation of Vaughan Fitzpatrick, a committed supporter of the Town of Mills River and benefactor of Ferncliff Industrial Park which became the east coast location for Sierra Nevada Brewing Company.

The scholarship covers the full costs of tuition, books, and fees. The scholarship recipients will be chosen each year by the Blue Ridge Community College Education Foundation.

Requirements

Each recipient must be a Mills River resident and must maintain at least a 2.5-grade point average. Fitzpatrick says it is hoped the recipients will stay and work in the general Henderson County areas after graduation. He added that the Foundation firmly believes that young people should try to pay back and support the communities that have supported them. "These scholarships and the action by Mills River Council will emphasize that it's the whole community supporting our young scholars, and we hope they will support the community in return", Fitzpatrick added.
