About Us

Incorporated in June, 2003, the Town of Mills River lies within minutes of Pisgah National Forest,
Interstate 26, and Asheville Regional Airport.  Highways 280 and 191 serve as the major arteries and provide access to the nearby cities of Asheville, Hendersonville, and Brevard.  Mills River is 22 square miles in size, is home to approximately 7,413 residents, and has a rich history in agriculture.  The face of Mills River is changing with the evolution of horticultural, sod and horse farming.

Services
The Town provides fire protection by contract with Mills River Fire and Rescue, provides law enforcement by contract with the Henderson County Sheriff's Department, provides planning and zoning services to manage growth and development, and has an active program to install street lights at key intersections and along major routes throughout the Town. Also, Mills River Park has a 1.2 mile multi-use trail, dog park, picnic shelter, playground, tennis courts, handicap accessible fishing pier, and canoe/kayak launch. The park is located at 124 Town Center Drive.

Tax Rate
Mills River is proud to offer its residents professional and caring government at a tax rate of $0.09 per $100 of assessed valuation.  In addition, the Town collects taxes for Mills River Fire and Rescue at an additional $0.11 per $100 of valuation.
A low tax rate and minimal government is a goal Council strives to maintain.

Schools
Mills River Elementary and Glenn Marlow Elementary Schools serve the youth and offer a first-rate education.  These schools feed to Rugby Middle School and West Henderson High School.  Blue Ridge Community College is located outside the Town, but serves the residents of Mills River as an excellent source for college level and technical training classes.
